JOHN STONER

It is with great sadness that John C. Stoner, Jr. MD, passed Sunday, May 2, 2021, at the Masonic Health Care, Elizabethtown.

John was born June 8, 1933 in Columbia, to Dr. John C. and Florence (Williams) Stoner. John attended schools in Columbia and graduated from Columbia High School. John went on to Ursinus College (Collegeville) and graduated with a BS in Biology.

After graduation, John applied to medical schools and while waiting to hear back on his applications, he was drafted and served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. While in the military, John married Mary I. Gross of Columbia.

After finishing active duty, John re-applied to medical schools and was accepted at Hahnemann Medical College, Philadelphia. While finishing his four years of medical school, John and Mary welcomed a daughter, Rhonda. John completed a year of internship at Harrisburg Hospital and then went into private practice as a General Practitioner in New Cumberland. John, Mary and Rhonda moved to Camp Hill. In 1966, John entered into partnership at Family Physicians of New Cumberland with Dr. George E. Edwards and Dr. G. Robert Little. John retired from practice in December, 1996.

They were members of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Camp Hill where John was still a member. In October of 1988, Mary passed away after a long battle with Cancer.

On February 14, 1999, John married Marilyn (Gordon) Kranzel and resided in Fairview Twp., Camp Hill until 2003 when they moved to Estero, FL. In 2005 they moved back to the area and presently had resided in Silver Spring, Twp., Mechanicsburg.


John enjoyed racquetball, swimming, bowling, pool, playing cards, reading, building model airplanes, and traveling and was a member of Harrisburg-Snyder Lodge #629, F&AM, Harrisburg.

In addition to his first wife, Mary, he was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. John and Florence Stoner. John is survived by his wife Marilyn, daughter Rhonda Fels of Camp Hill, and step children Scott Kranzel (Cici) of Danville, CA and Susan Kranzel Shaw (Wayne) of Carlsbad, CA

Private funeral services were held at the Parthemore Funeral Home website at with Rev. John H. Brock officiating.
