WILLIAM M. GROSS

Longtime Harrisburg, PA resident, William M. (Bill) Gross, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 11, 2022 in Florida. Bill was born on October 18, 1930 in Harrisburg, PA, son of the late Barney and May (Maltzer) Gross. A 1948 graduate of William Penn High School, Bill went on to earn his undergraduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania and his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Harvard Law School in 1955 before serving in the US Army in Germany.

Upon completion of his military duties, Bill married the love of his life, Rhea (Rosen) Gross, in 1959 at Beth El Temple and raised four sons in Harrisburg while practicing law with various trusted law partners. Together, Bill and Rhea enjoyed many years of family celebrations, friendships, and countless games of bridge, often traveling with kids in the back of the station wagon to bridge tournaments around the country. In 1986, Bill and Rhea moved to Memphis, TN where Bill spent 5 years as the Managing Director of the American Contract Bridge League before returning home to Harrisburg.

In 2006, Bill and Rhea moved to Longwood, Florida to enjoy the warm weather and help out with the young grandkids. There is nothing that Bill enjoyed more than playing games with his grandkids and taking them on special outings, especially breakfast with the PQRS club. Bill’s gifts were from his heart. His family always appreciated his advice and good counsel, and laughed at most of his dad jokes. His big smile and blue eyes will be sorely missed.

Bill leaves his children, Harry Gross (Amy) of Locust Grove, Virginia, Jeffrey Gross of Havelock, North Carolina, Steven Gross of Charlotte, North Carolina, Andrew Gross (Laura) of Longwood, Florida; his grandchildren, Lauren Stambaugh (Derrick), Bradley Gross, Hannah Gross, Nicholas Gross, Sophia Gross, Ryan Gross, and Sarah Gross. Bill is also survived by his sister Gloria Gross and brother Norman Gross, both of Fairfax, Virginia.

Family and friends honored and remembered Bill’s life by gathering on Monday, May 16, 2022 at the Beth El Temple Cemetery, 1100 South Progress Avenue, Harrisburg, PA, for his burial service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Beth El Temple, 2637 North Front Street, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
