SYLVIA BODENSTEIN

Sylvia Bodenstein, 97, of Harrisburg, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 16th, 2020 at UPMC Pinnacle Harrisburg Campus.

She was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 10, 1923 to the late Jacob and Rose (Rubin) Siegel. Sylvia was a WWII Navy veteran, one of the first WAVES serving in the 3rd Regiment, Hunter College, New York, and was a member of Chisuk Emuna Congregation.

Sylvia will live forever in everyone she touched, from her family, Grandchildren, and those special people that helped with just a little bit of finally needed care. Her legacy is her voice of reason, compassion, and her unwavering love and appreciation for those around her. She could have been an excellent therapist or philosopher, instead she chose to be the best mom, Grandma, and friend.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Bodenstein and her sister, Helen. Sylvia is survived by her three sons; Jay H. and his wife, Sandy of Florida; Alan D. and his wife, Bronna of Maryland; Lee F. and his wife, Jennifer of Harrisburg; her daughter, Ruth Ellen Greenberg and her husband, Dr. Gary of Arizona; six grandchildren: Michael Greenberg, Dr. Emily Hall, Beth Bodenstein, Ethan Bodenstein, Matthew Bodenstein, and Jessica DiBella; and six great grandchildren: Theodore Rex and Winston Harold Hall, Josh and Zach Bodenstein, and Mason and Jordyn DiBella.

Graveside services were held on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at Chisuk Emuna Cemetery with Rabbi Ron Muroff officiating. In staying with Sylvia's charitable generosities, memorial contributions can be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America or the Humane Society of the United States.
