RICHARD MAGILL

Richard M. Magill, M.D., passed away on Thursday, October 21 at the age of 90. He was born September 27, 1931, in Harrisburg. He was the son of Leon and Margaret (Brackbill) Magill. He was a graduate of William Penn High School and Dickinson College. He joined the Marines and was discharged to serve in U.S. Naval Reserve where he served while attending Temple Medical School.

After completing his medical training and becoming board certified in family medicine, he went into private practice in Harrisburg, where he practiced for more than sixty years. He served on the board of Temple medical school for many years.

He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, Marine, and friend. But his most cherished role was physician. Thousands of people were lucky enough to experience his compassion and expertise during his long medical career. He made house calls and took phone calls from patients all hours of the day and night. Their health and wellbeing were the most important things to him. When he retired, hundreds of patients attended his farewell party standing in line for the opportunity to thank him.

He is survived by his wife of forty-five years Patricia (Taub) Magill, and children Richard M. Magill, Jr., M.D. (Sherree Krigsman, MD) Leonard L. Magill (Tammy), stepchildren Jill and Shelly Bloom and Marc Ross, grandchildren Sara, Alex, Lenny (Katie) and Derek Magill, Eric and Lindsay Ross. And great grandson Winston Magill, brother Charles Magill (Rosalie) and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his daughter Kathy Magill, sisters Patricia Knipe and Wilma Burns.
