MICHAEL ZLOGAR

Michael E. Zlogar, 67, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania passed away with his loving wife by his side on September 4, 2020.

Michael was born in Harrisburg in 1953 to Frank and Amelia Zlogar.  A graduate of Harrisburg Area Community College with a degree in accounting, he began working as a manager in the family business: The Park Cafeteria and Zlogar and Sons Catering.  In 1982, their business closed. Mike traveled around the world, stopping for a time to work in Australia as a professional pyrotechnician, an avocation he enjoyed for 25 years.

He then worked for both the Pennsylvania Attorney General and the Auditor General. Later in life, he became a Licensed Massage Therapist.

He was an accomplished IPSC competitor, traveling far and wide for competitions. He enjoyed giving firearms safety instruction to the community and novice sportsmen. He was also the longtime President of the West Shore Sportsmen’s Association. Mike met his wife, Syl, at the range giving basic classes.

Michael was a member of Beth El Temple, where he and Sylvia served on the security committee and regularly attended services and functions.

Mike and Syl shared a love of traveling, cooking, gardening, and playing with FudgieBear and Shugie, their long-coated German Shepherd Dogs. They were beginner ballroom dancers who loved to laugh together and lived life to the fullest. Mike was a great storyteller and was known as a sweet, open-hearted gentleman. He will be missed.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents. Michael is survived by his wife, Sylvia Rosen; his sister; Jean (James deceased) Morehouse of Harrisburg; brother Frank (Ruth Ann) Zlogar of Hummelstown; brother John (Jill) Zlogar of Charleston, SC; brother David (Julie) Zlogar of Chester Springs, and sister Joan (Timothy) Zlogar-Nissley of Middletown.

A private graveside service will be held at Beth El Cemetery with Rabbi Eric Cytryn officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to Beth El Temple, Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, German Shepard Dog Rescue, or a charity of your choosing in Michael’s memory.
