ARTHUR PACHTER

Arthur A. Pachter, 83, of Harrisburg, a former Scranton resident, died Saturday, May 15 at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill. His wife, the former Lee Strassman, died Feb. 28.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Jacob and Bertha Pachter. He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and, before retirement, he was the owner of Arthur Pachter Automotive Supply Co. Inc. and Dart Battery Co. Inc. Arthur was also the owner of the former Scranton Miners, the Scranton Apollos, and the Wilkes-Barre Barons professional basketball teams.

He served twice as the president of the Beth Shalom Congregation, Scranton, was a member of B'nai B'rith, and numerous other religious, charitable, and community organizations.

Surviving are a daughter, Judith Schulder and husband, Dan, Harrisburg; a son, Jeffrey Pachter and wife, Linda, White Plains, N.Y.; grandchildren, Rachel, Seth, and Jacob Schulder, and Adam and Alyssa Pachter; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Joan Pachter; and brothers, Saul and Howard Pachter.

A graveside funeral service was held Sunday in the Dalton Jewish Cemetery by Rabbi Dovid Saks. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jewish Heritage Connection, 601 Jefferson Ave., Scranton, 18510.
