JACK POWELL

Jack Matthew Powell, of Harrisburg, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 28, 2021. He was predeceased by his parents Herbert and Sylvia Powell and brothers Saul and Paul Powell. He is survived by his daughters, Melissa and Elyse, son in-law, Jeff and grandson, Levi, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jack was born on October 28, 1949. He was born and raised in West Oak Lane, Philadelphia and he made sure everyone knew. He was always searching for the best bialy and hoagie. Jack moved to Harrisburg where he finished his Bachelor's degree at Penn State Harrisburg and then started a family. During his life, he had a poker group he met with frequently. He enjoyed vacationing with his family. He was a lover of the Phillies, cats, fireworks, and his La-Z-Boy recliner, just to name a few. Jack was a kid at heart and enjoyed watching cartoons with his daughters growing up.

Jack was a long-time member of Chisuk Emuna Congregation. His Jewish identity was important to him and he allowed his daughters to discover their Jewish faith on their own terms. What was more important to Jack was teaching his daughters to be tolerant of others and to be a mensch, or good person. After retirement, you could often find him at Mr. Deli enjoying a leisurely breakfast and discussing his 30+ years working for the state of Pennsylvania, or as he playfully called it, Mickey Mouse politics.
