EVELYN BEN-AMI

Evelyn R. Ben-Ami, 93, of Harrisburg, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at Arden Courts of Susquehanna Township.

She was born on May 4, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Morris and Ida (Gordon) Reisman. Mrs. Ben-Ami was a graduate of City College of New York and received her master's degree from Southern Mississippi University. She was a retired special education teacher with Capital Area Intermediate Unit, and missing teaching, and the children after retirement, she quickly returned to the classrooms of Susquehanna Township High School and Middle School.

The kids loved Mrs. Ben-Ami. She played a grandma role to them. When they would see her at school they would come to her for hugs. The children's affection and need for hugs continued when she was seen in the community long after they had graduated and reached adulthood. She had a great adoration for the piano and art.

Evelyn was the widow of Rabbi David Z. Ben-Ami and preceded in death by a son Hillel Y. Ben-Ami. Surviving are her son Raphael Z. Ben-Ami and his wife Cheryl of Fairfax, VA, her daughter Aviva M. Bellan of Harrisburg, 2 grandchildren Adam Bellan and his wife Angela, Danielle Bellan and her husband Jesse Cohen, 3 great-grandchildren Harrison Bellan, Wyatt Bellan, and Noah Cohen.

Private graveside services will be held at Kesher Israel Cemetery, Harrisburg, PA.
