ALAN ADLESTEIN

Alan L. Adlestein , z’l, 80, passed away on Monday, March 7, 2022 in Naples, Florida.

Alan was born on January 11, 1942 in Harrisburg to the late Sally and Marty Adlestein.  He graduated from Susquehanna Township High School, Cornell University with Distinction, and Harvard University School of Law, Cum Laude.

He began his career working for the United States Department of Justice, in the Attorney General’s Program for Honor Law Graduates. He was assigned as a trial attorney with the Organized Crime Task Force in Chicago. He went on to serve as Counsel for the Pennsylvania Crime Commission and as Assistant Special Prosecutor in the Watergate Special Prosecution Force where he was instrumental in fighting illegal corporate campaign contributions.

Alan worked in private practice in Chicago where he practiced both civil and criminal litigation. He was also active in a federal indigent defense program. He was the business manager and legal counsel for his family business, Jack & Jill, Inc. - a chain of popular children’s clothing stores in Harrisburg. After Watergate, Alan moved back to Harrisburg and became president and legal counsel for Domestic Distributors, Inc. He capped his professional life as a tenured professor at Widener University School of Law until his retirement.

 

Alan was a lifelong student of nature and anything related to Abraham Lincoln. But what he loved the most was his family.

 

He is survived by his beloved wife Doris Goldenson Adlestein; daughters Danielle (Chris) Bussell, Diane Adlestein (Michael Priester), Lori Hirsh and Amy Hirsh (Gene Reilly); sister Marcy Yesser and brother Gary Adlestein (Linda) and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at the Beth El Cemetery Chapel officiated by Rabbi Ariana Capptauber.  Interment in the Beth El Cemetery.
