JCC 5K Run: Back and Better Than Ever

By Terri Travers

Sunny skies and smiling people can best sum up the 2021 JCC 5K Run/Walk.  After going “all virtual” last year, the 2021 event offered registrants an option to return to the road to compete in-person or to participate in the event virtually.

The annual race which benefits the Sports and Fitness Department and the Josh Klein Bikkur Cholim Fund is a great opportunity to bring people together. More than 150 people turned out for the event last month on Sunday, September 12.

This year’s overall winner was Andrew Springer, with a finish time of 20:04.  Coming in second was Mason Wydra, with a time of 22:47. Our top female finisher and third overall in the event was Elizabeth Glabus, with a time of 23:09.

This year’s race saw a lot of runners, as well as a significant number of walkers.  The race draws people of every age from toddlers in strollers, to the students from Gesher and those in their 70’s and 80’s; it is a great community event and we enjoyed bringing everyone together again for this year’s race.

The race committee of Jordan Klein, Gary Klein and Patty Schwab went above and beyond to make the event special for every participant.  A huge thank you to all of the amazing volunteers and sponsors who made the event possible.
